Update on Kent, July 10

Dad was moved to a Kaiser facility in Roseville yesterday. His new room is much bigger and quieter than the one in the UC Davis ICU. There have been a few minor kinks in the transition, mostly due to poor communication between Davis and Kaiser, but overall this has been a positive development. The really great news is that Dad's breathing is no longer being supplemented with oxygen, and his feeding tube is gone. By the time I left this afternoon, he had eaten pudding, oatmeal, and some vanilla ice cream that we smuggled in. More good news: there is a DVD player. We brought him 'The Rocketeer', 'The Magnificent Seven', 'Planet Earth', and a few others. His mind gets sharper each day, along with his sense of humor. Jason and I were discussing who would be staying the night with Dad tonight, when Dad interjected, "Boys, I've been thinking about it, and I think I'll stay the night tonight. I don't want you to get lonely."

His physical therapy session today was sobering. They had him stand up for a few minutes, and they want to get him walking soon. Even after the infection and lung damage are healed, there will be a long period of recovering from the extended inactivity.

We love and miss the nurses at the UC Davis ICU. They were exceptionally attentive and compassionate. Root beer floats coming soon.

  1. How wonderful to be in a quieter, larger space and out of ICU. Great job smuggling in the ice cream. The line of people figuratively holding out a root beer float to President Wood is very long. He remains in our nearly every prayer, including those of our 2 year old daughther who says, "Please bless Presi Wood get all better from his owies."

Those sound like perfect movies. I wanted to send a poster of a picture from the Hubble Telescope so he would have something of interest to see as he heals.

Thank you again for the updates,

  2. That is such good news! I'm so glad to hear it. Many prayers have been answered and I'm so happy that he's doing better and that you guys are able to communicate with him even better now. We will continue to pray for your family and your dad's recovery.

I just want to say that I'm so grateful that you posted the video of your mom's testimony. I know it's been so many years since I've seen you guys, but it brought tears to my eyes when I saw it because she is such an amazing person. I'm lucky to call you guys my family.

  8. I have been following Kent's story and am delighted with his progress. Physical Therapist are great at getting the body working again. I know from personal experience. I did not know Kathy and Kent but I grew up in Claremont Ward with the Woods and know the Stone family too. My husband is a cousin to Rochelle Hilton so there is a family connection too.

  10. Daniel, Thank-you so much for the updates on your dad. He is my cousin and we are three months apart. My husband, Ken and I, work in the San Diego temple and we have been putting your names on the prayer roll. I love your mom so much and am heartbroken about what happened to her, but I know that she is with the Savior now and that she is watching over all of you. Please tell your dad that we (Ken, Regina, our daughter, Ashley, and her husband Jeff) love him and are praying for him every single day. Keep the ice-cream coming, it's a Wood family tradition! We love you all.

  11. It is GREAT to read about the progress Kent is making. It would be fun for those of us that don't know Kent and Kathy's children that well, to see a picture of the whole family posted to the blog.
